An expressive modern acrylic art, these pieces by ian are created as a form of improvisation. In musical improvisation, new notes are added
in a continuance, influenced by the previously played notes and rhythms before
them.
In these paintings, the colors and strokes and patterns of paint and brush on canvas are formed in the same manner. New strokes are influenced by the rhythms of the previously laid brushing, and new colors merge into a growing chorus, stimulated by the mood of the colors before them. Each color and stroke joining the consortium becomes a serendipitous progenitor of forms and colors to come.
The canvas is a place of lyrical freedom, where sub-consciousness pierces reality. In the course of this improvisation of color and brushing, there is an ever-emerging tangle of interweaving dancers.
And when the dance is done... they leave behind a picture of the song.
